Partners of those attending Station House can be very happily occupied if they choose to come as well. In fact it may be questionable who has the better time!
The Ribble Valley is a little known area of East Lancashire. Many people who expect to find mills, clogs and whippets are invariably surprised by the extent of the rolling countryside, moorlands and long views to the coast and over to the Pennines. Within the area itself, you will find many delightful villages with characteristic narrow streets, old stone cottages, excellent pubs with great food. This is Hattie Winthrop country. At its centre is the market town of Clitheroe - known for its castle, specialist sausages and award winning wine shop. Going further afield, over Pendle Hill you can go on the witches trail and also discover the many mill shops full of bargains. Traveling northwards through the Trough of Bowland takes you up to the historic town of Lancaster with its ancient prison, and onto Morecombe bay beyond. And of course there is Blackpool in the west with its Pleasure Beach and sea resort attractions. To the south is, Helmshore and its working Mill. And throughout the south of the county runs the Leeds Liverpool canal, taking the traveller through the industrial heartland, and the rural landscape. Lancashire is also excellently placed for visits on a wider radius. The heart of the Lake District is only 90 minutes away; the Yorkshire Dales 60 minutes away, Holmfirth home of The Last of the Summer Wine, and Howarth and Bronte Country 70 minutes away and Knowsley Safari Park by Liverpool only 45 minutes. And North Wales and Snowdonia is only 2 hours drive.
