The 600 sq ft ground floor comprises our Reception area, the Signals Room - both floored in hardwearing natural oak, plus the disabled loo, a downstairs gents' loo, and the kitchen facilities. The wider up stairs level is over 900 sq feet and looks
out onto the platform on one side, and out over our car park to the tennis
courts and playing fields on the other. There is a quite
remarkable old copper beach tree by the courts which makes the seasons fascinating to
watch. This floor, carpeted throughout, accommodates the large Platform
Room, the attached smaller Library seminar and meeting room, plus
the ladies' and another gent's loo and our service office. As you would expect from late 19th century Victorian architecture, the walls are about two feet thick, the ceilings rise up to 12 feet and the mullion windows are impressive. With the blend of modern and traditional lighting, and our low profile decor, this all makes for a light airy atmosphere and a sense of permanence. Considering we are on an active branch railway line, the disturbance created by the local sprinter service is surprisingly limited. Curiously the arrivals and departures are much more of a feature than a hindrance - and great for any trance work! If we're very lucky, we get the steam Dalesman Pullman going past, connecting with the scenic Settle-Carlisle line - great for any anorak or wannabe Railway Child! Now you have a sense of the atmosphere, find out more about what each specific area can offer you.
